Using QR Codes

You may have seen images like this recently in a magazine, on a billboard or maybe on the side of a bus. QR codes are a form of digital marketing that is just now starting to pick up in popularity in the United States.

QR Code

QR codes are found just about everywhere. They are used by scanning them with an app on your smartphone. The code then tells your phone what to do next. When scanned, this particular QR code will tell your mobile phone to visit this site, Region Central at www.remax-nj.net.

So how are QR codes useful? Imagine having a QR code printed on the side of each one of your For Sale signs. If someone passing by were to scan the code you could direct their phone to more information for the listing, a photo gallery even your contact information. Does it sound like too much to handle? Well, most of the work is done for you. Visit LeadStreet at www.remax-nj.org and click on the Listings tab at the top of the screen. The first screen you are brought to is the Listing Manager. If you currently have listings with any of the New Jersey MLSs they will appear here. If you do have listings but they are not currently showing in your Listing Manager, contact the Help Desk at help@remax-nj.net.

Click View to the left of one of your listings. You will be taken to the Listing Data screen. On this screen you will see all of your listing’s information. In the middle of this screen there is a section labeled QR Code. The text in this area reads, “Generate a QR Code for this listing.” Below that text you are presented with three options, “Small”, “Medium” and “Large”. Clicking on one of these links makes a window pop up with a QR code for your listing. At the top of the pop up window you can see the URL that scanning the QR code will take you to.

Most of the work has been done for you. All you have to do now is save the QR code image by right-clicking on the image and clicking “Save Picture As…” and sending the picture file to a printer. Or you can choose the Print option to print the QR code right on your home printer.

Now you can take the printed QR code and post it where you think it would market the home best. Have it printed in your local newspaper, on the side of the For Sale sign or on flyers for the property. You can even generate your own QR codes for free using this site: http://createqrcode.appspot.com/. Create a QR code that takes smartphone users to your website and have it printed on your business card. The trick is being creative with how you use this new kind of marketing.
