The idea for this week’s tech tip comes from Troy Murphy who is one of our experts manning the front lines at the Regional Help Desk.  Thanks, Troy!

This Week’s Tip:  What's in a (website) Name?

We often hear from agents who are confused on which website they should be going to for all of the great functionality we’ve implemented to help you support your business.  We’re going to try and explain the differences between these URLs (Uniform Resource Locator’s) or website links in this article to try and ease that confusion.

Here are some of the websites in question:

  1. www.REMAX-NJ.com
  2. www.REMAX-NJ.com/remaxnj/intranet/ IRC page login
  3. www.YourUserName.REMAX-NJ.com
  4. www.REMAX-NJ.net
  5. www.REMAX.net
  6. www.REMAX.com

Okay, so let’s try and explain these one at a time:

  1. www.REMAX-NJ.com This is our public regional listings webpage.  When we’re doing our online marketing campaigns and listing a website, this is the URL we use.  We receive over 200,000 hits per month to this website and over 500,000 agent listings were viewed last month alone.  Once a website visitor hits this site, they can “drill down” by location to find individual agent and office websites that fit their needs.

  2. www.REMAX-NJ.com/remaxnj/intranet/ If you look at the bottom left hand side of the page when you have website #1 open, you will see the ‘Agent’s Only’ button.  If you click on this you will be taken to the login screen at this URL where you can login to the IRC or Intranet Resource Center.  Whereas the Internet is public, an Intranet is our private network behind the scenes.  Only RE/MAX of New Jersey Agents have access to the Intranet.  You login with the ID and password given to you when you joined RE/MAX.  (Usually your first initial and last name; John Stewart would be jstewart)

  3. www.YourUserName.REMAX-NJ.com This is your individual RE/MAX of New Jersey website.    You can also find your individual site by typing in www.REMAX-NJ.com/YourUserName and replacing the ‘YourUserName’ with the ID given when you joined RE/MAX.

  4. www.REMAX-NJ.net This is the Quick Links to Regional Resources page.  You can keep up with everything going on at this page.  Bookmark it or even better, set this page as your homepage.  How?  In Internet Explorer, go to www.remax-nj.net then from the menu bar select ‘Tools’ then ‘Internet Options’ and click the button ‘Use Current’.  This now becomes your home page every time you open your browser.

  5. www.REMAX.net This is RE/MAX Mainstreet, the International intranet.  This serves not just our Regional area, but all of RE/MAX worldwide.  The first time you visit, you login and are issued an ID and password (different from your Regional ID and password).

  6. www.REMAX.com This is the public website of RE/MAX Worldwide.  So, when Aunt Edna is watching TV and sees the commercial with the giant RE/MAX agent and wants to look up the website, she’ll go to www.RE/MAX.com.

BONUS TIP: Feedback on digital cameras  Last spring we asked for feedback on agent's favorite digital cameras.  We got a few responses, but are always looking for more.  Click on the "Archives" button above to view the responses.

Time's up! Gotta go. Have suggestions for other Tech Tips?  E-mail me.
